Writing for Founders
A short, opinionated course on writing clearly when the stakes are high.
About the course
Most founders write a lot of words and very few of them get read. This is a fixable problem, and fixing it is among the highest-leverage things you can do.
Across twelve lessons, you'll work through the writing that founders actually have to do — investor updates, customer outreach, hiring posts, internal memos — and rebuild your defaults.
By the end you won't write like a writer. You'll write like a person who has something to say and respects the reader's time.
What you'll come away with
- 01Write a clearer investor update in 20 minutes than most founders write in two hours
- 02Recognize the four kinds of throat-clearing you do without realizing it
- 03Build a small kit of templates for the writing you do every week
- 04Edit your own work to half its length without losing meaning

What students say
I sent my investor update to Maya before this course; she rewrote it in fifteen minutes. The next month, three investors replied who'd never replied before.

I've taken a lot of writing courses. This one is the first that took my actual work seriously instead of asking me to write fiction about apples.

The "bad defaults inventory" alone was worth the price. I've been carrying around four of them for a decade.

Frequently asked
It's a writing course. Marketing is downstream of being able to make a real claim in real words.
